NEW!
For this year’s multi cultural celebration, the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders created life sized portraits of some of their favorite artists, leaders and thinkers. Simultaneously, our class was experimenting with time lapse videography. We combined the 2 projects to create this short documentary.

A short documentary made by a very talented group of 4 to 8-year-olds. The assignment was to use a pair of googly eyes around the school to find faces that express different emotions. Students were then asked to become puppeteers to bring those faces to life.

My students, particularly the younger students, have expressed particular interest in lessons involving animation. Here is a compilation of short animation clips created using iAnimation. Created under the guidance of Matthew Chilbert.

The 1st and 2nd graders in my video production class designed  and built original puppets. They then  practiced their creative storytelling skills through visual, oral and literary mediums. Here are 6 of the 30 projects that we've completed so far this semester.
All props were made from materials found on the playground. The animations at the beginning were created by the Kindergartners in my animation class.

This proved to be great introduction to animation for young students. Any opportunity to connect the process to the student will strengthen it's impact. In this case, the students were allowed to animate themselves using a simple 12 to 17 frame loop. They could decorate the individual frames however they desired. The result was a project that contained both a structured set of steps and ample room for creative expression.
